’International Buddhist Conference Hall’ built in Kelaniya Vidyalankara Pirivena.

The fully fledged International Buddhist Conference Hall at Kelaniya Vidyalayankara Pirivena was constructed by the National Physical Planning Department at a cost of 170 million when Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena was holding the portfolio of the Minister of Urban Development.

Later, due to issues with several related organisations, there was a problematic situation in using the center. A preliminary discussion on bringing it back to operational level was held recently (14.03.2024) at the Kelaniya Vidyalankara Pirivena under the guidance of Ven. Welamitiyawe Gnanarathana Thera, Parivenadhipathi of Vidyalankara Pirivena, Kelaniya, and under the patronage of Prime Minister.

The related institutions, I.e. the Ministry of Urban Development, the Ministry of Buddha Shasana, the Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau, and the National Physical Planning Department came to an agreement to address the deficiencies and bring it to the operational level by fulfilling the requirements.

Ministers of State Sisira Jayakodi, Prasanna Ranaweera, Member of Parliament Yadamini Gunawardena, secretaries of relevant ministries and heads of departments participated in this event.
