Party leaders discuss proposals on electoral reforms

A discussion of the party leaders representing the Parliament was held on 18.10.2023 at the Parliament Complex under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena regarding the proposals submitted to the cabinet for the introduction of a mixed voting system and amendments to deposits furnished by candidates in the parliamentary elections.

The Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms, Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, who submitted the proposals relevant to the Constitutional amendments, Sagara Kariyavasam, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), Sisira Jayakody, Mahajana Eksath Peramuna (MEP) Mahinda Amaraweera, Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), A.L.M. Athaullah, National Congress (NC), S. Chandrakanthan, Tamil Makkal Vidudalai Puligal (TMVP), A. Arvind Kumar, Upcountry People’s Party (UP), M. Rameswaran, Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) Rishad Badiuddin, All Ceylon Muslim Congress ( ACMC), Mano Ganesan, Democratic People’s Front (DPF), G. G. Ponnambalam (ACTC) Angajan Ramanathan, Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), Shan Vijayalal de Silva, Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), Sarathy Dushmantha, Sri Lanka Freedom Party ( SLFP), Dallas Alahapperuma, Freedom National Council, Jayantha Samaraweera, National Freedom Front (NFF), Professor Tissa Witharana, Lanka Samasamaja Party (LSSP) Udaya Gammanpila, Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU), Rev. Athuraliye Rathana Thera, Vijaya Dharani National Assembly, Asanka Navaratne, Sri Lanka People’s Party, Weerasumana Weerasinghe, Sri Lanka Communist Party (CP), Gevindu Kumaratunga, National Organization of Duty) were present in this meeting.

It was decided to hold another discussion in the coming parliamentary week. It was also decided to submit the final report to the Cabinet.
