Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, officially awarded the 5 smart classrooms fully equipped with computers donated by the Saemaul Foundation of Korea to 5 schools in Sabaragamuwa Province and Central Province at a function held at the Temple Trees today (March 11).

The Saemaul Foudation, under its Digital Saemal Program has donated computers and equipment worth 36.5 million rupees for the smart classrooms of St. Joseph Girls School, Gampola, Naminaoya Central College, Ginigathena Central College, Godakawela Kularathna School, and Ranwala Maha Naga School.
In his speech, the Prime Minister commented;

“I highly appreciate Korea as a country that continues to support Sri Lanka. Students, you are the future generation. You are the one to take over the country. At a time when the miracles of information technology are changing the world, Korea is bringing support to our schools far away. Obtain its maximum benefits. Today we understand the need for smart classrooms for knowledge. We are grateful for the support given by the Korean government and the donor institutions to quickly provide smart classrooms to schools in the country.”

Korean Ambassador Myeon Lee thanked the generous contributions provided by Saemaul Foundation to schools in Sabaragamuwa and asked to take steps to expand it throughout the island.

Saemal Foundation President Lee Song Jong addressed the ceremony from Seoul through Zoom said his foundation would expand this program further in Sri Lanka and take steps to provide relief to school children.
Mr. Chai Sung Woo, the representative of Saemaul Foundation in Sri Lanka coordinated the awarding ceremony. The students of the schools that had smart classrooms also addressed the event through Zoom.

Sabaragamuwa Province Governor Navin Dissanayake, Central Province Governor Lalith U. Gamage State Minister Janaka Wakkambura, Member of Parliament Nalaka Kottegoda, Prime Minister’s Secretary Anura Dissanayake, Public Administration Ministry Secretary Pradeep Yasaratne, principals and school children participated in this event.
