Representatives of the National Women’s Commission Meet the Prime Minister

The Chairperson and Commissioners of the Independent National Women’s Commission of Sri Lanka met with the Hon. Prime Minister, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, at Temple Trees on 3 July.

During the meeting, the delegation briefed the Prime Minister on the progress made in implementing the Women’s Empowerment Act, No. 37 of 2024. They also highlighted that the National Women’s Commission is Sri Lanka’s first independent statutory body established to promote, protect, and advance women’s rights, while leading the implementation of the national agenda for women’s empowerment.

Addressing the meeting, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya commended the progress achieved by the Commission to date and expressed her appreciation for its continued commitment to promoting women’s rights, gender equality, and the empowerment of women in Sri Lanka.

The meeting was attended by the Chairperson of the Commission, Grace Asirwatham, Commissioners Jayanthi Kuru-Uthumpala, Janaha Selvaraj, Dr. Padma Gunaratne, and M. U. Gayani,and Executive Director K. D. R. Olga.
