France to provide more assistance to dairy sector in Sri Lanka

New French Ambassador Jean Francois Pactet said France is keen to expedite proposed dairy projects to enhance milk production in Sri Lanka. He stated this when he called on Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena at the Temple Trees in Colombo today (Dec 22).

The Ambassador also stressed the need for Sri Lanka to increase exports to France to further balance bilateral trade. Key exports from Sri Lanka to France are apparel, fisheries products, pneumatic rubber tyres, liquid coconut milk and tea.

PM and Indian Envoy hail SLTC link with IIT, Madras

Prime Minister Dinresh Gunawardena and Indian High Commissioner Gopal Baglay jointly witnessed the establishment of partnership linkage between the Sri Lanka Technological Campus SLTC Research University (SLTC) and the Indian Institute of Technology – Madras (IITM) for an inclusive partnership for academic, research and resource exchange.

A large scale container factory to be established in Trincomalee

Yakdong Industries Co. Ltd- one of the 10 leading companies in Korea has invested US$ 50 million in the establishment of a large scale container manufacturing factory in Trincomalee.

The Chairman Heung Seok Gwon and the vice Chairman Kyeong Won Shin of Yakdong Industries Co.Ltd met with Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena at the Prime Minister&rsquos Office yesterday (14) and assured that the constructions of the factory will be completed soon so as to commence production within the next six months.

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena called on the United Nations to declare a Humanity Day under the UN calendar.

Speaking at the International Convention of Peacemakers for Universal Harmony held in Colombo at the Sri Lanka Foundation, he urged the participants to examine his proposal and take up following action as the rapid deterioration of human values is a very dangerous threat to the mankind.

Prime Minister meets European Union envoys

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena held a discussion with the Ambassadors of member countries of the European Union at the Temple Trees yesterday (Dec 7).

The Prime Minister briefed them on the steps taken by the government with regard to establishing economic, social and political stability and the results thereof.

The envoys who took part in the discussion included European Union Ambassador, Denis Chibi, Ambassador of Germany, Holger Seubert, Ambassador of the Netherlands, Bonnie Horbach, Ambassador of France, Jean-Francois Pactet and Charge d’Affaires of Embassy of Romania, Victor Tiudjia.
