The Prime Minister, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, stated that the Government does not grant any special privileges or promote anyspecific group of people and emphasized that sensitive social issues should not be used for political advantage.

The Prime Minister made these remarks on October 8 in Parliament, responding to a question raised by Opposition MP Kavinda Jayawardena regarding the LGBTIQ+ community.

The Minister of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya participated in the official Launching Ceremony of the RMIT-UGC joint research program held today (Oct 02) at the Taj Samudra Hotel, Colombo.

The Gandhi Jayanthi celebrations were held at Temple Trees on 2nd October 2025, to mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The event was attended by the Prime Minister, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, together with the High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, H.E. Santosh Jha.

Answering to the question raised by the member of Parliament S. Shritharan on the reductional reforms the Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya stated that the government will initiate education and curriculum reforms for Grade 01 and Grade 06 starting in January 2026.
