’FREEDOM STRUGGLES OF SRI LANKA; Lessons Learned and the Way Forward’ presented to Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena

Prof C M Madduma Bandara presented a copy of his researched volume titled, ’FREEDOM STRUGGLES OF SRI LANKA; Lessons Learned and the Way Forward’ to Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena at te Prime Minister’s Office in Colombo today (31).

This book was completed on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the Great Rebellion against British colonial rule in UvaWellassa in 1818 and shows how Sri Lanka which had been an independent government for over 2000 years, lost its independence due to the oppression by the imperialists. This book highlights a strong argument that compensation should be paid for the horrible crimes committed against humanity during that period.

Speaking at this occasion Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said that it is the responsibility of the government to take action in this regard. “The reports submitted by the Buddhist Commission and Udarata Rural Rehabilitation Commission have presented the damage done to Sri Lanka by the imperialists and the government has a responsibility to take action in that regard”, said the Prime Minister.

Venarable Omalpe Sobitha Thera, Venarable Whitiyala Kavidhaja Thera, Yadamini Gunawardena MP, Prime Minister’s Secretary Anura Dissanayake, Navin Gunaratne, Lawyer Senaka Weeraratne, Renuka D. Nagodawithana, Kshamendra Thilakasiri, Dhawala Muthukudaarachchi and Gamika Gunawardena were also present on this occasion.
