Premier congratulates new Malaysian PM

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena congratulated newly-elected Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. When the outgoing Malaysian High Commissioner Tan Yang Thai paid a farewell call on him at the Temple Trees today (25), the Prime Minister conveyed his congratulations to the new Malaysian leader who assumed office yesterday after the victory in the general elections.

“On behalf of the Government and the people of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and on my personal behalf I offer heartfelt congratulations to you on your appointment as Prime Minister of the Malaysia,” he said.

Premier Gunawardena said he looked forward to continuously work with the new government of Malaysia to further promote the deep, longstanding bilateral ties that are built on the foundation of shared democratic values.

The Prime Minister and the High Commissioner exchange views on close friendship and cooperation between the two countries. They discussed potential Malaysian investments in fisheries, renewable energy and agriculture in addition to the information technology and marine and ocean sciences.

Secretary to the Prime Minister Anura Dissanayake was also present on this occasion.
