Need to reconsider the issue of land rights of National Heroes whose lands were confiscated by the Colonial regime - Prime Minister

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said there is a need to reconsider the issue of land rights of National Heroes whose lands were confiscated by the Colonial regime. He stated this when he called on the Mahanayake of Malwathu Chaper Most Ven Thibbotuwae Sri Siddhartha Nayake Thera and Chief Registrar of Asgiri Chaprer Most Ven Dr Medagama Dhammananda Nayake Thera in Kandy.

The Prime Minister pointed out that the discendents of National Heroes had to face numerous difficulties because the colonial regime confiscated their ancestral lands and those misdeeds must be rectified. This was also stated in the report of the Upcountry Village Commission. Although subsequent governments took initial steps to implement the Commission’s recommendation, the issues were not finally settled due to delays. The Prime Minister assured that steps would be taken to rectify the mistakes as early as possible.

Parliamentarian Yadamini Gunawardena was also present on this occasion.
