He is also currently the Minister of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils & Local Government, a Member of Parliament, and Leader of the MEP which is in alliance with SLPP.

Outgoing Bangladesh High Commissioner Tarek MD. Ariful Islam paid a farewell call on Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena at the Temple Trees on July 23.

He has been appointed as Bangladesh Permanent Representative to United Nations in Geneva and the Prime Minister wished him well in his new assignment.
