Awards presented to schools that have won the ’Project RUN’ award

The award ceremony of the Project RUN program implemented by the Mother Sri Lanka Trust under the theme "Apen Ratata- Rata Nagumata” (From us to the country’s growth) was held under the patronage of Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena at Temple Trees today (28).

The Project RUN program made a set of school children identify a problem in the school or the community around the particular school, and let them present solutions to that problem.

The main objectives of this program were to develop students’ patriotism, improve creativity - independence - leadership - project management ability and entrepreneurship, and providing an understanding to the generation of students to build them as responsible citizens.

The awards and prizes were given by the Prime Minister to the winners including Jaffna Mailani Siva Maha Vidyalaya who won the first place, Am/al-Mashar Girls High School the second place and Nikaveratiya Ku/Mahasen National School the third place.

This program, which was implemented to cover all 25 districts of the island, implemented projects in 150 schools for the years 2021/22, of which 75 schools were selected for the final round. Of these, 2 schools won special awards, 03 more schools won at the national level, and 11 schools won at the provincial level.
This program is implemented under 3 themes namely R - Responsible Citizenship, U - Unity, N - National Pride, in order for the Sri Lankan student community to think deeply about the mission to be fulfilled by the country and gain experience to become responsible citizens.

Mother Sri Lanka Trust was originated in the year 2008 as a long term project with objectives of generating optimistic thoughts about the motherland in Sri Lankans, creating positive attitudes among youth to become citizens who love the motherland, providing motivation to locals and Sri Lankans abroad to contribute directly to the development process and enhancing unity and harmony among all Sri Lankans based on the Sri Lankan identity.

Minister of Education Mr. Susil Premajayantha and officials of the Ministry of Education, Dr. Janaki Kuruppu, founder of Mother Sri Lanka Trust and many others were present at the event.
