Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena presented the Akthapathra of the title of Anunayaka of Sri Lanka Amarapura Maha Nikaya, Amarapura Siri Saddhammavansa sect, to Tripitakacharya Ven. Borelle Athula Thera who presides over the Athula Dassana Buddhist Centre, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo and Gnanalankara Bhikkhu Care Centre in Borella, at Bandaranaike the Memorial Hall on 27.07.2024.
The annual Lotus Flower offering, which was started by Borelle Athula Thera in 1984, is currently being performed at historical temples in various parts of the country. He also took the initiative to maintain the Dasa Paramita Perahara for forty years, centering on the Athula Dassana Buddhist Center in Medin poya day at the Bauddhaloka Mawatha.
Borella Athula thera who had visited many countries in the past and engaged in missionary work, became the chief Sanghanayake of Three korala Salpiti, Hevagam, and Raigam of the Amarapura Sirisaddhammavansa sect during the era of Sri Dhammananda thera. He was also honoured with a committee member position and the position of Chief Sanghanayake of Colombo district during the era of Balangoda Sudhammawansa Maha Thera.
Ven. Dr. Karagoda, Uyangoda, Maitri Murthy Mahanahimi, M.A. Acting Supreme Sanghanayake of Sri Lanka Amarapura Mahanikaya, Ven. Ahungalle Siri Seelawisuddhi Thera, Mahanayaka of Sri Lanka Ramanya Mahanikaya,Ven. Makulawe Siri Wimala Thera (M.A), Mahanayaka of Siam Mahanikaye, Ven.Malwane Pannasara Thera, Mahanayaka of Sri Kalyani Samagri Sangha sabha, Ven. Murutthettuwe Ananda Thera, Chancellor of Colombo University, Ven. Balangoda Sobhita Thera, Royal Panditha, Master of Philosophy, Parivenadhipati of Vidyodaya Pirivena, and many other members of the Maha Sangha and devotees participated in this event.
