Premier congratulates new Malaysian PM

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena congratulated newly-elected Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. When the outgoing Malaysian High Commissioner Tan Yang Thai paid a farewell call on him at the Temple Trees today (25), the Prime Minister conveyed his congratulations to the new Malaysian leader who assumed office yesterday after the victory in the general elections.

“On behalf of the Government and the people of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and on my personal behalf I offer heartfelt congratulations to you on your appointment as Prime Minister of the Malaysia,” he said.

Prime Minister asked BMS-Northumbria Univ to set up a nursing school

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena urged the Business Management School and its British partner Northumbria University, United Kingdom to establish a nursing school under its expansion plans for next year. He also suggested to commence specialized education programmes to business and economic graduates to enhance their skills to make them qualified for global and local employment.

Chess is a sport that instills discipline and patience in youth – Prime Minister

The Commonwealth Chess Championship Awards and Prize Giving Ceremony was held at the Temple Trees under the patronage of Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena on 22.11.2022.

The winners representing England, South Africa, India, Pakistan, Maldives, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka were awarded at the occasion.

Addreesing the Commonwealth chess officials and players, Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said that it was a privilege for the country to hold the Commonwealth Chess Championship in Sri Lanka and that the game would help to develop discipline, patience and the power of thinking and gaining knowledge to the youth of the country.

PM’s Office mobile health clinic provides medical services to Pannipitiya residents

A free health clinic organized by the Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena’s office with the sponsorship of Pannipitiya Private Hospital at Dharmapala Vidyalaya on Saturday (19) provided medical services to hundreds of people in Pannipitiya, Maharagama, Kottawa and surrounding villages.

The clinic comprised of medical services, dental, eye, gynecology and other tests as well as blood tests. Pregnant mothers belonging to lower-income families were given Rs 8,000 worth of food and other essential supplies each.

Bangladesh keen to expand ties to new sectors including fisheries and shipping – Bangladesh Envoy

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena thanked Bangladesh for extending assistance to Sri Lanka to meet the unprecedented economic and fiscal crisis and stressed the need for taking bilateral cooperation to new spheres.

Reciprocating positively, Bangladesh High Commissioner Tareq Md Ariful Islam said that his country is very keen to take the cooperation to new areas such as fisheries, shipping and tourism.

High Commissioner who called on the Prime Minister today (18) at the Prime Minister’s Office in Colombo said Bangladesh would commence discussions with Sri Lanka to enter into shipping sector as Sri Lankan ports are being used for substantial amount of global exports and imports of Bangladesh.

Premier urges Korea to recommence ongoing projects and assist the food drive

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena urged Korea to recommence the temporarily halted joint projects in Sri Lanka and to explore possibility of investing in more areas of development such as agriculture, fisheries and export crop industries.

Prime Minister thanks Saemaul Foundation of Korea for assistance to rural upliftment

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena thanked the Saemaul Foundation of Korea for its generous assistance to implementation of infrastructure and livelihood development projects in selected villages in Sri Lanka to uplift the rural economy.

China’s top global roaming ambassador says Sri Lanka is ready to take off

Prime Minister discusses trade and education cooperation with Mexico

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said Sri Lankan youth have great interest now in learning foreign languages and requested Mexico to assist in setting up Spanish language departments in Sri Lankan universities.

He said Mexican investors should enter into new areas of investment in cinnamon and other spice production in order to add value to export products.
