The government has decided to hold the Wesak festival on 06th of May in Kandy. At the festival organizing committee meeting held at the \r\nPrime Minister\\\'s office, Hon. Prime Minister said that this decision was taken on instructions of his Excellency The President.\r\n

A festival, to commemorate37th anniversary of National Water Supply and Drainage Board, and pay tribute to its employees, was held at\r\nthe Foundation Institute Colombo. The key note address was delivered by the Hon. Prime Minister at this festival.\r\n\r\nHon. Minister of National Water Supply and Drainage and the Deputy Minister were among the huge crowed gathered on this occasion.

Hon. Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne says that the popular school concept in the society has created crises in the field of education.\r\n\r\nThe Prime Minister indicates that the government has taken necessary actions to build fully equipped 1000 schools island-wide, to solve the problem of popular schools. He said this at the festival held in Girls’ High School, Kandy to distribute school text books for the year 2012.\r\n\r\n

International Conference “Community and Water Supply” opened on the 29th September 2011 at Plant Gene resource Center, Gannoruwa, Kandy under the leadership of Honorable Prime Minister D.M. Jayarathne.\r\n\r\nPrime Minister D.M. Jayarathne emphasizes that the SAARC countries should pay their special attention on the pollution and destruction of water resources in the whole world due to excess use of chemicals, the development of industrial sector and environmental pollution.\r\n\r\nA large number of foreign diplomats representing several countries including India, Nepal, Afghanistan, Nigeria, Philippine, Maldives and Bangladesh participated in this conference which held for 03 days.\r\n\r\n

The 52nd death anniversary of late Prime Minister S.W.R.D. Bandaranayaka commemorated at the Bandaranayaka Memorial at Horagolla with the participation of venerable Bhikkhus of the Three Chapters and under the patronage Honorable Prime Minister D.M. Jayarathna.\r\n\r\nThe Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne played floral tributes to the Bandaranayake statue after the performance of religious observances memorizing His Excellency S.W.R.D.
